Ghedung delegates call on PM Karki

Kathmandu: A delegation of the Nepal Tamang Ghedung (Association) has called on Prime Minister Sushila Karki today.

In the meeting held here today morning, the delegation extended invitation to PM Karki for her participation as a chief guest in a cultural festival the Ghedung is going to organize in Kathmandu on coming January 19 on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar.

The delegates discussed various aspects of Tamang communities, culture and their socio-economic condition, said Ram Bahadur Rawal, press advisor to PM Karki.

They also drew the attention of PM Karki towards the fact that Tamang community’s population exceeds 3 million in the country but the last census showed only 1.7 million due to errors in data, said press advisor Rawal.

On the occasion, PM Karki indicated towards the upcoming March 5’s election to the House of Representatives members and asserted that the election is the only democratic way-out for the current situation.

She, thus, called for cooperation from all levels and strata of society to conduct the election successfully.

The septuagenarian leader noted, “The country has entered into election mode. This is not just an ordinary election. It is one that will provide a way-out for the current situation and lead the country towards sustainable stability.”

Furthermore, the Head of the Government urged, “Let’s keep in mind September 8 and 9. We should not let this situation repeat. We need deliver in accordance with the aspirations of the youths. You should elect new, young and honest members to the parliament in the upcoming election.”

It may be noted that the interim government led by PM Karki was formed in the wake of Gen-Z uprising on September 8 and 9 last year. The interim government is mandated to conduct fresh election and has accordingly announced March 5’s election.

During today’s meeting, PM Karki observed that the country no longer can be run with old mentalities, thoughts and style and thus emphasized that that the leadership must come from young and honest individuals who can govern in line with the aspirations of the youths.

Karki called for vigilance from community level to avoid unnecessary interference and activities in the upcoming election.

“If we want to end corruption, we need to take initiatives through the election. Voters must also stay alert. We need to discourage wrong practices and tendencies that prevailed in the past elections,” she underscored.
