At least four people were killed and 27 others injured when a truck collided with a passenger bus in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province on Saturday night, local authorities said.

The accident occurred on Jalalpur Road in Lodhran district, where the bus was carrying wedding guests, according to state-run Rescue 1122.

Rescue authorities said the victims included men, women and children. The force of the collision badly damaged the bus, resulting in multiple casualties among passengers.

Rescue and police teams rushed to the scene shortly after the accident and launched relief operations. The injured and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment and medico-legal procedures.

Police said an investigation had been launched to determine the cause of the crash.
