Changan launches EV plant of capacity 200,000 units in Thailand

Kathmandu : China’s first automobile manufacturer group, Changan Automobile, has officially begun car production at its first international New Energy Vehicle (NEV) plant located in Rayong, Thailand.
This significant milestone under Changan’s key strategy, the “Vast Ocean Plan,” shows the company’s future focus on not just exporting cars from China, but on building a full-fledged industrial ecosystem outside its home land.
The Rayong plant is equipped with advanced production, research and development, and long-term supply chain capabilities. It will not only manufacture Changan’s green and smart cars but also serve as a base for global operations.
EVs produced at Changan’s first international EV hub will be distributed in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, Central and South America, and the Eurasian market. The plant currently has an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, which will be expanded to 200,000 units by 2027.Since the Changan brand was introduced in Thailand in 2023, it has already sold 14,000 units, making it
Top Four NEV brands.
The new plant was inaugurated with the rollout of the right-hand-drive Deepal
S05 which will be soon launched in Nepal also. With this, Changan’s total global production has reached 28.59 million units.
Spread over 392,000 square meters, the Rayong plant includes five workshops: welding, painting, assembly, engine, and battery production. Its eco-friendly design utilizes natural daylight, solar energy, and water recycling. Its advanced automation and adaptive systems ensure high-quality production that meets global market demands. The plant will manufacture EVs under the Changan, Deepal, and Avatr brands.
Changan’s global strategy is currently focused on sustainability and localization, aligning with modern trends. Since its debut in Thailand two years ago, Changan has launched seven models, including the popular Deepal S07 and Avatr 11. The Rayong plant is expected to further elevate Changan’s 41 years of vehicle manufacturing experience.
Changan Chairman Zhu Huarong stated that despite global challenges, the plant will play a vital role in establishing a local ecosystem. The Rayong plant will serve as Changan’s international NEV hub. Through a combination of Thai coordination and Chinese expertise, Changan aims to drive economic growth and advance the global auto market.
