Issues instigating conflict being kept under control: Home Minister Aryal

Kathmandu: Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal said that the issues capable of rebounding the conflict have been kept under control.
At today’s meeting of the National Assembly Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee today, he said the government has intensified its works to enable environment for the upcoming election to the House of Representatives.
“Let there not hostility continue. The country should be governed as per the prevailing laws”, the minister said, adding, “We have put the issues that can instigate conflict under control to some extent”.
Dialogue between the political parties and the Gen Z Groups is continuing in an effort to address the conflicting issues, he shared.
Minister Aryal expressed the commitment to make the election free and fair. He informed that the management of the seized weapons and escaping prisoners is being carried out in an effective manner.
He went on saying that the civic cooperation has been received to boost the confidence of the police and reconstruct the damaged infrastructures.
He also expressed the confidence that the people would be able to exercise their franchise rights in a safe environment.
Minister Aryal informed the Upper House Committee that minute vigilance has been kept over the demonstration, sit-in, rallies and protests taking place in different parts of the country and effective security arrangement has been made in a coordinated manner.
He stated that the procurement of logistics for employees to be mobilized from security agencies is in progress. In light of recent developments and the changed situation following the GenZ movement, a help desk has been established to address any untoward incidents. He further said that, targeting the upcoming House of Representatives election, 20 decisions have been made so far through four meetings of the Central Security Committee. The formulation of the election security strategy is among these 20 decisions. In addition, plans have been forwarded to enroll temporary police personnel in preparation for the election.
According to the Minister, a total of 595 individuals have been arrested in connection with offenses related to the September 8–9 movement, while 283 are facing lawsuits in various cases. So far, 723 arms looted from security forces have been recovered, and of the 14,554 prisoners who escaped from various prisons across the country, 9,697 have been rearrested. A special operation is ongoing to locate the remaining 4,857 fugitives.
Regarding the upcoming election scheduled for March 5, the National Security Council has already made decisions regarding the mobilization of the Nepali Army. For election preparedness, a total of 262 vehicles are being procured for the Nepal Police: 156 from the regular budget and 106 from supplementary funds.
Similarly, 109 vehicles are being purchased for the Armed Police Force: 59 from the regular budget and 50 from supplementary funds. For the National Investigation Department, resources have been secured to buy six additional vehicles, and the procurement process has started, he said.
