HoR election: UML, NCP fail to register victory in Gandaki Province under direct system

Gandaki : As the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) registered its resounding victory under the first-past-the-post electoral system in Gandaki Province in the House of Representatives (HoR) election held on March 5, the CPN (UML) and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) candidates failed to win a single seat in entire constituencies from the province.

Out of the total 18 seats, the RSP candidates won the poll in 15 constituencies in the province. The RSP candidates won all seats in the province except in Myagdi, Mustang and Manang.

RSP candidates Khadak Raj Paudel (Ganesh) won the HoR seat from Kaski-1, Uttam Prasad Paudel in Kaski-2 and Bina Gurung in Kaski-3.

RSP candidates also won both HoR seats in Baglung district. Sushil Khadka and Som Sharma have been elected from Baglung-1 and Baglung-2, respectively.

Likewise, Dr Dhananjay Regmi and Jhabilal Dumre emerged victorious from two constituencies in Syangja district.

In Tanahun district, Dr Swarnim Wagle won the HoR seat from constituency-1 and Shreeram Neupane from constituency-2, according to the Election Commission.

RSP’s Rajan Gautam clinched victory from Nawalpur-1 and Manish Khanal from Nawalpur-2, while Dharmaraj KC of the same party won the poll from Lamjung.

Sagar Bhusal of the RSP made to the election from Parbat, while Sudan Gurung from Gorkha-1 and Kabindra Burlakoti from Gorkha-2 of RSP won the election to the HoR.

Nepali Congress won two seats from Manang and Mustang, and independent candidate Mahabir Pun emerged victorious in Myagdi district.

For NC, Yogesh Gauchan Thakali won from Mustang and Tek Bahadur Gurung from Manang district.

In the HoR election held in 2079, the CPN (UML) and the NCP had won five and two seats, respectively.

Likewise, the Nepali Congress (NC) is now downsized with two seats in the province under the direct electoral system, while the party’s candidates had won 10 seats in the HoR election in 2079.

The Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal lost its lone seat as compared to the last election.
